REGIONAL HEALTHCARE HUB
The healthcare sector in Tyler represents a major sector of the local economy, anchored by UT Health East Texas, CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital, and Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine & Joint Hospital. UT Health operates the 424-bed UT Health Tyler Hospital, the region’s only Level one trauma center, and recently opened the new 20,000-square-foot Three Lakes specialty clinic in South Tyler. CHRISTUS Mother Frances recently completed a $100 million expansion with the 200,000-square-foot Bradley-Thompson Tower, adding a state-of-the-art Emergency Care Center, advanced ICUs, expanded NICU and added Labor & Delivery units. Joining these is Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine & Joint Hospital, a $27-million state-of-the-art facility focused on spine, joint, neck, and back care. With the recent formation of the UT Tyler School of Medicine, the first in East Texas, these systems not only deliver advanced care but also represent the city’s largest employment base, supporting more than 34,000 jobs.
CLOSE PROXIMITY TO REGION-DEFINING UNIVERSITIES
The University of Texas at Tyler and Tyler Junior College are both located within five miles of the Hilton Garden Tyler and support over 23,000 students. UT Tyler, which recorded a record fall 2025 enrollment of 11,602 students, continues to grow its footprint with expanded graduate offerings. These include the region’s first medical school, a new 248,000-square-foot Medical Education Building, and a $95 million investment in health sciences and resident education facilities. Tyler Junior College enrolls over 12,000 students and is known for its strong health sciences, vocational training, and academic transfer programs, particularly through its Rogers Nursing & Health Sciences Center.
COMMITTED LOCAL ECONOMIC INVESTMENT
Tyler’s recent economic growth is fueled by major investments and site readiness initiatives. Since 2023, the Tyler Economic Development Council has acquired over 690 acres for new business parks, including the 412-acre Interstate Commerce Park and the 281-acre North Tyler Commerce Park, where Amazon is building a 140,000-square-foot facility. Great Southern Wood Preserving is investing $40 million in a new processing plant at Interstate Commerce Park, creating over 100 jobs. Additional expansions include Trane Technologies’ $76.7 million upgrade, Hood Flexible Packaging’s $17 million investment, and Barrio Energy’s renovation to create a 12-megawatt data center. The city is also advancing infrastructure with $25.6 million in a downtown revitalization project and over $90 million in FY2025 utility and traffic upgrades.
